Participatory Grantmaking - Shifting Traditional Philanthropy to a More Equitable Approach to  Resourcing Systemic Change

Join us for a 3 part webinar series examining:

1. Delve into the roots of traditional philanthropy for why a shift is necessary to move toward liberation principals.  ( What's wrong with traditional philanthropy?)
2. Identifying, normalizing and embedding equitable principles and practices into grantmaking to shift resources and power to those with lived experience and proximity to the challenges in society and their lives (The power of power - rethinking the model of philanthropy)
3. Discuss the tools, resources, impacts necessary to inform the field of participatory grassroots grantmaking and trust based philanthropy (The nuts and bolts) 

Who should join?

• You are a grantmaker making direct grants to groups of adults and/or youth who are traditionally underserved
• Staff within philanthropic institutions that want to transform their grantmaking practices
• Proximate to traditional grantmaking in any way and wants to catalyze change in the sector to achieve more equitable outcomes for traditionally underserved groups and communities. 

Traditional philanthropy is grounded historically in an insular, capitalist and racist structure. We are inviting participants to consider a model that shifts the control of power and wealth to address racial, economic and social injustice issues.

This series is facilitated by a partnership between  Community Connections Grant Program -  Detroit and InFusion Community Grants - Baltimore, both participatory grantmakers with over 25 years combined  experience. Both groups are funded by but situated outside of the traditional philanthropic sector.
